Remedial courses are for those students who did not pass their core courses. In order to successfully complete the program, students should have achieved at least 40% in the course during the school year. Courses will consist of 40 hours of instruction.
Note: Students who successfully complete a remedial course will receive a "C". Students taking a grade 10, 11, or 12 remedial course wanting to achieve a higher mark than "C" should consider taking a full-credit course.LOCATION: NorKam Secondary

Summer Math Camp (Grades 6-9)

What is it?This summer program is intended to help improve students’ math skills and confidence, allowing easier progress through the standard Math curriculum. This non-credit program will support learners with paper- and computer-based opportunities to encourage active participation while building competency in number sense, patterns and numeracy relationships.
Who is it for?This is intended for any student who lacks comfort when working in Math and who would benefit from building skills and confidence in Math. Students should be recommended to this program by their current teacher, and registration is FREE! Students should be just completing grades 6, 7, 8 or 9 in June, 2011. Students must have a B.C. Personal Education Number (can be found on any recent report card), and are not required to be a current student from S.D. #73.
When is it?The program will start on Tuesday, July 5th, with 15 daily sessions that are each 3 hours (incl. 20 min break) in length running Mon-Thurs, until July 28. The expected times will be from 9am to 12pm; with a possible option for 12pm to 3pm, if registration is sufficient.
Where is it?We intend to offer the program at Brock Middle School as well as Sa-Hali, Chase, and Clearwater Secondary schools. Registration numbers may affect locations.
What will it look like?A typical day may look something like this:
75 min - guided intervention Math lessons and activities
45 min - computer-assisted practice (Mathletics and other on-line websites)
25 min - guided Math games/activities
15 min - reflective self-assessments
20 min - break.
Total: 180 minutes.

Rec 'n Reading
WHAT IS REC ‘N READING?
- It is a summer session for students exiting Grades 1, 2, and 3 (if space) who need extra support or consolidation for their reading.
- The numbers are small – 20 students – and the focus is on small group instruction with literacy centers to reinforce skills.
- Mornings are totally devoted to literacy.
- Afternoons are recreation and fine arts, taught by qualified personnel.
WHEN DOES IT RUN?
July 4 – July 29 - It runs for 4 weeks in July, Monday to Thursday, 9:00 am to 2:30 pm.
WHO TEACHES IT?
Qualified SD #73 teachers teach the morning literacy program, with support from our recreation leaders, many of whom are Education Faculty students from TRU or qualified teachers.
WHAT DOES THE DAY LOOK LIKE?
9:00 – 12:00 Reading and Literacy activities
12:00 – 2:30 Lunch and Recreation/PE/Fine Arts activities
WHERE ARE THE SITES?
There will be Rec 'n Reading sites at the following locations:

Kamloops sites are open to students from all city schools
HOW ARE CHILDREN ENROLLED IN THE PROGRAM?
Students must be referred to Rec 'n Reading by their classroom teacher or Learning Assistance teacher.
Provincial Exams, August 2011
- Provincial exams will be held at NorKam Secondary during the week of August 15 - 19, 2011.
- All exams will be held in electronic format only (i.e., done on computers).
- Students may register by phoning @KOOL at (250) 376-5663
- Students who have not been pre-registered may sign up on the spot.
- All students should bring photo ID and their PEN (Personal Education Number, found on any BC report card).
This is important -- every year we have to turn away students who didn't bring photo ID.
